BREAKING: Hamas Statement regarding the Famine declaration in Gaza:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The declaration of famine is a stain on the occupation and its supporters, and necessitates immediate action to stop the war and open the crossings.
What was announced by the United Nations' "Integrated Food Security Phase Classification" regarding the spread of famine in Gaza Governorate, and what the World Health Organization confirmed about Gaza City suffering from a famine extending throughout the Strip, represents conclusive international testimony to the crime committed by the zionist occupation against more than two million besieged people.
This is a confirmation of the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe our people are exposed to due to the continuous "israeli" aggression, which uses the policy of starvation as a tool of war and extermination against civilians, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and all international norms and conventions.
We, in the Hamas movement, affirm the importance of this UN announcement, even though it came very late after many months of warnings and suffering that our people endured under systematic siege and starvation.
We have repeatedly warned that the policies of siege and systematic starvation, and the prevention of food, medicine, and water from our people, constitute a full-fledged crime of genocide. Today, UN reports have come to confirm to the entire world the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe our people are experiencing.
The criminal occupation's denial of this documented reality, and its false claims that there is no famine in Gaza, reveals a criminal mentality that deliberately lies to cover up the crime of killing by starvation being practiced against children, women, and the sick, in flagrant defiance of all international laws and norms.
The international community, with all its institutions, bears an urgent legal and moral responsibility to stop crimes against humanity and save more than two million people facing genocide, starvation, and the systematic destruction of all means of life. In this context, we call for the following:
1. Immediate action by the United Nations and the Security Council to stop the war and lift the siege.
2. Opening the crossings without restrictions for the urgent and continuous entry of food, medicine, water, and fuel.
3. Holding the occupation legally accountable for using starvation as a weapon of war, as it constitutes a war crime and a crime of genocide under international law.
4. We call on Arab and Islamic countries and the free people of the world to take immediate action and pressure the occupation to stop the war of genocide and ensure the flow of urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
