Turkey has begun a major cross-border military offensive, targeting Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the northern part of Iraq, according to the Defense Ministry, in Ankara.
The operation involves an extensive airstrike campaign using jets, helicopters, and drones, as well as a ground incursion by commando troops, Defense Minister Hulusi Akar announced in a video address on Monday morning.
Ankara claims it successfully destroyed multiple bunkers, tunnels, and ammunition depots, as well as military headquarters of the PKK in northern Iraq’s border areas of Metina, Zap, and Avashin-Basyan, before ground forces moved into the neighboring state. It is unclear how many troops and military hardware are involved in the operation.
Our operation is continuing successfully, as planned. The targets that were set for the first phase have been achieved,” Akar said, as cited by AP.

Turkish forces are only targeting “terrorists,” taking extra precautions to avoid the loss of civilian lives and damage to cultural heritage sites, the minister claimed.

“Our struggle will continue until the last terrorist is neutralized,” he said. “We are determined to save our noble nation from the terror misfortune that has plagued our country for 40 years.”

The PKK is a Kurdish militant political organization and armed guerrilla movement fighting for an independent Kurdistan, and has been battling Ankara since 1984, in a war that has claimed more than 40,000 lives. Over the years, Turkey has conducted multiple military operations against the PKK, which is based in northern Iraq and has used the territory to fuel insurgency in the eastern part of Turkey.

The PKK has also been designated a terrorist group by the US, UK, and EU. However, the Kurds were an important ally to the West and the US in the fight against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorists both in Syria and Iraq. Washington maintains a military foothold in Syrian Kurdish-controlled regions, while the Iraqi Kurdistan region hosts several American military installations and a US consulate in Erbil.

The Turkish Defense Ministry has released footage of its military offensive against Kurdish forces in northern Iraq. Ankara launched its latest campaign against the militants, who it considers terrorists, on Sunday evening.
NATO-member Turkey labels the assault a "special operation."
The video shows fighter jets, attack helicopters, artillery, and ground forces in action. Most of the footage was filmed with night vision equipment.
The Turkish campaign, ‘Operation Claw-Lock’, is a cross-border action by Turkish forces targeting Kurdish militants in northern Iraq. Ankara considers the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the People’s Protection Units (YPG) terrorist organizations. The ongoing operation focused on the regions of Metina, Zap, and Avasin-Basyan, the Turkish military reported.

🇹🇷🇮🇶 Turkey has completed the first phase of the special operation against the Kurds.

During the operation in northern Iraq, 30 militants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party banned in Turkey were neutralized, the country's Defense Ministry said.

The ministry clarified that the special operation itself will continue "until the elimination of the border threat." At the same time, Ankara assures that the territorial integrity of Iraq will not be "violated" according to its results.

Turkey launched a special operation against Kurdish armed groups on April 18. According to Turkish intelligence, they were planning a large-scale attack on the territory of the country.

Baghdad protested against Ankara's actions, but there was no international condemnation.

Not only did Turkey avoid the "infernal sanctions", it also reminded of its "importance" for Brussels and asked to join the European Union.

The kingdom of crooked mirrors...

Turkey's conditions for admitting Finland and Sweden into NATO:

1) The prohibition of the Kurdistan Workers' Party
2) The prohibition of FETÖ and branches
3) Establishment of legal norms and infrastructure for combating terrorism
4) Deportation and extradition of persons connected with terrorism
5) Removal of restrictions from the military industrial complex of Turkey
6) The prohibition of demonstrations by the PKK, FETO and affiliated organisations
7) An agreement to exchange intelligence on terrorist groups

Aferin! Ne çok güzel oldu. O büyük bir insan. Ona saygım var.

Bravo. Dat is mooi. Hij is een groot persoon. Respect voor hem.

Heeft deze “terroristische aanslag” (van de CIA?) iets te maken met het contact dat Erdogan en Poetin recentelijk hebben gehad?
