AXIOS: Former Treasury Secretary and Harvard professor Larry Summers announced Monday he is stepping back from public commitments amid bipartisan backlash over newly released emails detailing his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
In a statement, Summers expressed deep shame: “I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognize the pain they have caused. I take full responsibility for my misguided decision to continue communicating with Mr. Epstein. While continuing to fulfill my teaching obligations, I will be stepping back from public commitments as one part of my broader effort to rebuild trust and repair relationships with the people closest to me.”
The disclosures include Epstein referring to himself as Summers’ “wing man” and Summers seeking his advice on pursuing a female mentee. Organizations like OpenAI, Bloomberg, and the Center for American Progress are reviewing ties; Harvard has not commented.
