JUST IN: Israeli Army Radio reports on the next stage for the Israeli army which includes admitting that Hamas is not defeated & options of occupying Gaza, military operations or a ceasefire deal and expelling Hamas leaders:
In recent discussions between the IDF and political leadership regarding the continuation of the war in the Gaza Strip, the IDF presented a clear position: At the current stage, the two main war goals are in conflict. It is not possible to achieve both at the same time, and therefore, they must be pursued sequentially.
From the IDF’s perspective:
First, the hostages must be returned, and only then should efforts continue to dismantle Hamas.
Contrary to statements attributed to the Chief of Staff suggesting that “Hamas is a dead organization,” the IDF maintains that Hamas has not yet been defeated, and that its dismantling remains essential. However, the order of priorities must be chosen, and returning the hostages comes first.
The Chief of Staff presented three possible options to the political leadership for continuing the war:
1.A deal – the preferred option
2.Full occupation of the Gaza Strip
3.Further military operations that avoid entering city centers or areas suspected of holding hostages
Additionally, a previously reported fact relevant to discussions about the “expulsion of senior Hamas leaders”:
Out of 14 senior Hamas leaders who were in Gaza at the start of the war—and who are considered the architects of the October 7 attack—the IDF has informed the political leadership that 10 have been eliminated, and only 4 senior leaders remain in Gaza. These four are considered potential candidates for expulsion.
