JUST IN:
The Government Media Office in Gaza accused the Israeli occupation forces of spreading false claims about “vast empty spaces” in southern Gaza and publishing misleading maps to justify forced displacement. It warned that such actions aim to create a new humanitarian disaster and constitute war crimes. Southern and central Gaza are already overcrowded, hosting more than 1.25 million displaced people.
Haaretz reported that two mapping experts, Udi Ben-Nun (Hebrew University) and Prof. Yaakov Garb (Ben-Gurion University), revealed that many of the areas the army marked for evacuation are in fact zones it had itself previously defined as dangerous and unsuitable for civilians. Of the 19 “blocks” on the army’s map, 6 are entirely or partly outside permitted zones.
Further analysis showed:
➤ The designated “safe” areas cover only ~7 km², far too small for the population.
➤ Some of the land is unusable—sand dunes, flood-prone areas, or roads.
➤ Satellite images confirm many areas are already filled with tents of displaced families.
Another evacuation would be catastrophic, as most residents have already been displaced multiple times and cannot physically, financially, or emotionally endure further forced movement.
