200.000 jongeren kunnen vanaf nu worden opgeroepen voor dienstplicht: ‘De geesten worden rijp gemaakt’​

Deze week ontvangen 200.000 jongeren de Dienstplichtbrief, waarin staat dat ze opgeroepen kunnen worden als een oorlog dreigt, bericht het AD. Het ministerie van Defensie vraagt in de brief voor het eerst aandacht voor het zogeheten dienjaar, dat de mogelijkheid biedt om een jaar lang mee te draaien als militair.

De brief wordt ieder jaar verstuurd naar jongeren die 17 zijn of dit jaar 17 worden. De dienstplicht is opgeschort sinds 1997, maar bestaat nog wel en geldt voor iedereen tussen de 17 en 45 jaar.
