JUST IN: EU TO PROPOSE MEASURES AGAINST ISRAEL OVER GAZA
The EU will present a list of five possible measures against Israel next week over its actions in Gaza, including trade restrictions, sanctions, and a possible arms embargo.
However, deep divisions among member states make action unlikely.
An internal review found “indications of human rights breaches” in Israel’s EU trade deal. The proposals, to be discussed on July 15, mark the first formal response of their kind.
Israel has called the review “outrageous,” while the EU says the aim is to change behavior on the ground, not punishment.

Van de 720 europarlementariers hebben er slechts 77 voor die motie gestemd.
Alvise Pérez, de controversiële opruier die Europarlementariër is geworden, maakt weer eens lawaai in Brussel. Deze keer heeft hij dat gedaan door - samen met een hardline Roemeens lid van het Europees Parlement - een motie van afkeuring tegen Ursula von der Leyen in te dienen die er, tegen alle verwachtingen in, in is geslaagd de drempel te halen die nodig is om in behandeling te worden genomen.
In een Europees Parlement met 720 leden steunden slechts 77 de motie, die de legitimiteit van de voorzitter van de Commissie in twijfel trok. Onder hen geen enkele afgevaardigde van PSOE, PP, VOX, Sumar of welke andere Spaanse fractie dan ook... behalve één: Pérez zelf, die van zijn eenzame stem een propagandaspandoek heeft gemaakt.
Parlementaire bronnen bevestigen dat de Patriotten voor Europa fractie, geleid door Viktor Orbán, haar leden - waaronder VOX leden - had gevraagd om deze motie niet te steunen, met de bedoeling om in oktober een andere motie in te dienen onder haar eigen verhaal en leiderschap. VOX heeft hieraan gehoor gegeven. Pérez niet.
Wat zeker is, is dat Von Der Leyen zijn veroordeling voor corruptie zal moeten indienen bij en verschijnen voor het Europese Hof van Justitie. En dat de enige Spaanse stem die dat heeft uitgelokt niet van het socialistische blok komt, noch van de conservatieven, noch van de formatie van Abascal... maar van een ongemakkelijke figuur die iedereen even ongemakkelijk maakt.

Von der Leyen twijfelt, maar de Brusselse moerassen beschermen de koningin nog steeds. Ze heeft geen absolute meerderheid meer in het Europees Parlement; daarvoor had ze 361 leden nodig gehad. Veel parlementsleden gaven er echter de voorkeur aan om de stemming over #Misstrauensantrag te vermijden. Hoewel er geen meerderheid was voor de motie van wantrouwen, is Von der Leyens zwakte nu voor iedereen zichtbaar. Als haar verkiezing tot Commissievoorzitter vandaag op het spel had gestaan, was ze gefaald. Ze zou één stem te weinig hebben gehad.
Ook wij, als tegenstanders, hebben een respectabel resultaat behaald. Bijna een derde van de leden die vandaag stemden, stemde voor de motie. Dit is een groot succes, dat we te danken hebben aan de heer Piperea en natuurlijk ook aan onze ESN-fractie, die bijna 50% van de voorstanders van de motie vertegenwoordigde.
Ik weet zeker dat dit niet de laatste motie van wantrouwen zal zijn tegen deze mislukte EU-Commissie en haar voorzitter Ursula von der Leyen. We zullen de volgende snel zien. Deze keer kwam Von der Leyen ermee weg omdat ze de stemmen van Groenen en Links kocht met concessies uit de EU-begroting. De volgende keer zal het anders zijn...

The European Union has crossed all red lines, as it watches 2.4 million Palestinian civilians being slaughtered, starved, and displaced without mercy—yet has failed to activate a single mechanism of accountability, despite Israel’s blatant and repeated violations of the human rights clause in the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
The EU’s decision to merely "monitor the situation closely" constitutes a betrayal of the very human values it claims to uphold, while the absence of any punitive measures effectively gives Israel a green light to continue its massacres—with explicit European approval.
We formally hold the European Union politically and morally responsible for this ongoing crime, and we call on it to end its policy of hypocrisy, complicity, and double standards, and to immediately suspend the Association Agreement, hold the Israeli occupation accountable, and bring Israeli war criminals to justice through fair international trials.
