China is een economische grootmacht, maar wel ten koste van het alledaagse leven van de gemiddelde Chinees: zie deze docu: als expat is het goed toeven in China met je buitenlandse geld vanwege de prijsverschillen met het land van herkomst (vaak VS o.i.d.). Alleen dat zegt niks over het leven van de gemiddelde Chinees. De spreker is ''Winston / Serpentza'': hij woonde 13 jaar in China en is met een Chinese vrouw getrouwd. Hij is een blanke vluchteling uit Zuid-Afrika: weggevlucht vanwege de apartheid in Zuid-Afrika. Als blanke (ook niet-boer) was het voor hem daar niet meer leefbaar. Weet niet of hij nu inmiddels in de VS woont overigens.
