NEW: The 71-year-old audience member who was arrested at Charlie Kirk’s UVU event says he told cops he shot Kirk to distract police so the real shooter could escape.

“I shot him, now shoot me,” George Zinn allegedly said immediately after Kirk was shot.

While speaking to investigators, Zinn said he was trying to “draw attention from the real shooter.”

Zinn was charged with obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony.

Ben Shapiro has stepped in as a co-host of The Charlie Kirk Show, alongside Matt Walsh and Michael Knowles, all of whom are supporters of Israel.

His move comes just days after Charlie Kirk’s assassination, with Shapiro vowing to “pick up the blood-stained microphone where Charlie left it.”
