Israeli soldiers were caught on video raping a Palestinian captive last year, causing severe internal injuries.

No one disputes the rape happened. Since then:

- The Israeli military has launched a criminal probe into the *leaking* of the video.

- Defence minister Israel Katz has called the video's *leaking* a "blood libel"against the Israeli military.

- Israel's top military law officer has been forced on leave after suspicions that staff in her office *leaked* the video.

Haaretz reports that the rapist soldiers, identified from the video, "are currently not in custody or under any legal restrictions".

Abducted at the Zaatara checkpoint in June 2022, al-Ghoul describes how jailers burned the beard of an elderly man while he was chained, broke his ribs with metal batons, kicked his face with occupation military boots, and used electric shocks on hostages’ heads and necks.

A classified U.S. watchdog report found Israeli military units committed “many hundreds” of potential violations of U.S. human rights law in Gaza.

The State Department’s Inspector General said the scale of violations under the Leahy Laws, which ban U.S. aid to abusive foreign units, would take years to review, raising doubts about any real accountability, as the process heavily favors the Israeli army.
