Gaza Under the Weapon of Starvation: A Full-Fledged War Crime and Systematic Genocide
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) affirms that the Gaza Strip is facing a catastrophic famine due to a continuous comprehensive siege, in the most dangerous stages of genocide, for over five months. This includes closing crossings, and preventing infant formula, food, and medicine from reaching over two million people, including 40,000 infants threatened with immediate death, in addition to 60,000 pregnant women. The occupation has turned food into a weapon of slow killing, and aid into a tool for chaos and looting, under the direct supervision of its army and aircraft.
The majority of aid trucks entering Gaza are subjected to looting and assault, as part of a systematic policy followed by the occupation, based on “engineering chaos and starvation” with the aim of depriving civilians of the scarce aid and thwarting its safe and organized distribution.
While the Strip needs more than 600 trucks of aid and fuel daily to meet its minimum needs, what is actually allowed to enter represents only a small percentage.
The catastrophe has reached a point where mothers in Gaza have been forced to feed their children water instead of milk, and so far, 154 Palestinians have been martyred due to hunger, including 89 children, with hundreds of daily cases of malnutrition, amidst a near-complete collapse of the healthcare system.
Despite escalating international condemnations, the occupation promotes limited aerial and ground aid drops, while most of them fall in dangerous areas that it had previously ordered evacuated, rendering them useless and threatening civilian lives.
In a repeated criminal act, the occupation targets aid security teams and opens corridors for looting gangs under its protection, as part of a systematic plan to perpetuate starvation as a tool of war.
Hamas calls on international institutions to expose the occupation's behavior based on “engineering starvation” and to legally and morally denounce it, considering it a complex and deliberate war crime, no less serious than direct bombing and destruction.
Hamas affirms that breaking the siege and opening the crossings immediately and unconditionally is the only solution to end the catastrophe in Gaza, and any delay in this means moving towards a stage of genocide, especially against vulnerable groups such as children, the sick, and the elderly.
We call on free peoples and human rights and humanitarian organizations around the world to escalate their actions and work to impose an independent and secure UN mechanism for the entry and distribution of aid, away from the control of the occupation and its criminal policies.
