Israel declared a state of emergency and raised the alert level to maximum, with the army intervening to support firefighters.

Vehicles began catching fire, with reports of new fires in Ashkelon and Ashdod. Wind speeds are expected to increase significantly in the coming hours. Israeli hospitals reported 12 cases of suffocation and burns.
