Palestina - Israël

Haaretz reports that six Palestinians have died in Israeli prisons since October 7, at least two of which were found to have signs of severe violence.

A detainee who was released in a prisoner swap says "They took the martyr Thair Abu Assab to the bathroom door and beat him with these and it opened his head. He (the warden) saw that blood was coming from his head and then he continued to hit him in the shoulder and broke it. Then he went on and hit him a third time and a piece of his head fell to the floor, we saw that something fell between us."

I’m in tears as I recall my 2014 visit to Refaat Alareer’s classroom in the Islamic University of Gaza, chronicled by @MaxBlumenthal, where I witnessed the holy work he did inoculating his students from Zionism’s hateful logic.

Refaat lives on through his pupils, those of us who know him, and everyone who has read and will read his writings into the future.

As Israel exterminated hundreds of Palestinians in the Gaza ghetto, the odious propagandist @bariweiss singled out Refaat Alareer (@itranslate123) for making fun of fully debunked Zionist lies, putting a target on his back.

Now that Israel has murdered him, she must be constantly reminded that his blood is on her hands.

I've just learned that Dr. Refaat Alareer, along with several family members, has been murdered in an Israeli airstrike.

I'm in tears and sick to my stomach as I write this.

I had the great honor to spend time with Refaat during my time in Gaza, including harvesting olives with him in 2015 in his home neighborhood of Shujaiya.

I visited him in the Islamic University of Gaza, where he used English-language literature and poetry to teach his students the difference between Judaism and Zionism, equipping them with the mental tools to resist Zionist propaganda that seeks to conflate the two.

Refaat was a guiding light as a I documented life and death for my documentary, Killing Gaza. He helped me gain access to elders in his neighborhood who provided testimony of shocking Israeli war crimes.

In one of our last exchanges, I told him that, in my time in Gaza, I felt as though I were documenting the Warsaw Ghetto before its liquidation by Nazis. I promised him that his writings would be featured in a future Victims of Zionism museum. I didn't imagine that would be my last message to him.

Refaat Alareer embraced everything good and pure about Gaza and Palestine. He will not be forgotten and his legacy will live on for many generations to come.

Rest in peace, Refaat.

Among those detainees is my dear friend and veteran journalist Diaa Al-Kahlot. I had begged him to leave Beit Lahia and go to the south of Wadi Gaza, but he told me how to leave your dear Nada and my elderly mother.
His daughter, Nada, is disabled and needs special care and equipment, she wouldn’t survive displacement.

My heart is with Diaa, my heart is with Nada. My heart is with all our hostages.

Chief rabbi of Israel David Lau inscribes a message of hate onto an artillery shell to be fired into Gaza’s densely populated neighborhoods:

“For the uplifting of Israel's might and the revenge of his servants spilled blood. In prayer for the success of the protectors of our holy land.”

A nation of murderers.
