BBC: Israel is marking the “yellow line” deep inside Gaza, far beyond what was agreed upon, and is shooting and killing civilians behind it.
New satellite images and Israeli army footage analyzed by BBC Verify show that Israeli forces have placed “yellow line” boundary markers hundreds of meters deeper inside Gaza than the maps agreed upon under the October ceasefire deal.
The airstrike on the Abu Shaaban family on October 17, which killed 11 people including seven children and two women, was located about 125 meters behind the designated border line.
➤ In the Atatra area in northern Gaza, BBC found six yellow markers positioned up to 520 meters inside the Strip.
➤ Near Khan Younis, ten additional markers were spotted between 180 and 290 meters inside the supposed withdrawal line, a line that already gave Israel control over more than 53% of Gaza’s territory.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who ordered the placement of these markers, warned that “anyone crossing the line will be shot.”
BBC Verify documented at least two deadly incidents near the border, including footage dated October 17 showing 11 members of one family killed about 125 meters behind the expected line.
Analysts told the BBC that these markers form a “deliberate kill zone,” expanding Israeli control under the guise of the ceasefire agreement.
Palestinians living near the line told the network the markers are unclear and that they live in a state of “constant danger.”
BBC Verify concluded that Israel is enforcing a line far deeper than agreed, thereby maintaining much larger areas of Gaza under de facto military occupation in violation of the ceasefire terms.
