Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said in an interview with Al Jazeera on Thursday that the movement does not object to finding a national formula for managing the Palestinian national struggle, following the announcement of an agreement ending the Gaza war and leading to a prisoner exchange.

He added that Hamas supports holding a comprehensive Palestinian national dialogue with the participation of all parties to organize the Palestinian resistance. However, he stressed that the resistance’s weapons are legitimate, serving to defend the Palestinian people and to ensure the independence of Palestinian decision-making.

Regarding the clause in U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan that calls for the disarmament of the movement, Qassem said that Hamas is discussing approaches with mediators to achieve a ceasefire, but not on the basis of surrendering its weapons.

He also affirmed that Hamas will not be part of governing Gaza, emphasizing that the movement has shown all the flexibility required in this regard.

“Hamas is ready to fulfill its national, moral, and political responsibilities toward our people,” he said.
