Fishermen in Gaza, cut off from their main source of income due to the blockade and constant airstrikes, are now producing homemade fuel by burning plastic and waste in unsafe makeshift furnaces.
The fuel powers cars, ambulances, tuk-tuks, and generators but the process is extremely dangerous.
A single malfunction or nearby strike could cause a deadly fire. “This isn’t our job,” one says, “but we do it to survive.”
