Nee. Ritter probeert (helaas tevergeefs) het culturele verschil duidelijk te maken tussen onze westerse cultuur en de Perzisch-Arabische cultuur. Het culturele concept van martelaarschap is ons westerlingen volkomen vreemd. Wij hebben doodsangst en zijn vanuit zelfbehoud egoistisch. In het midden-oosten heeft men echrer met de paplepel ingegoten gekregen dat niemand beter of slechter is dan de ander omdat men samen onderdeel uitmaskt van een groter geheel. Het westerse wereldbeeld is materieel, het oosterse is spiritueel. Vanuit de spirituele logica is het vanzelfsprekend dat zelfgekozen martelaarschap wel degelijk een overwinning is, maar dat zullen westerse commentatoren nooit begrijpen. Onze ziekte is dat we superieur zijn, dus spirituele wijsheid toekennen aan onze 'tegenstanders' past niet in ons vervormde wereldbeeld.
