JUST IN: France’s President Macron:
“I had a conversation with King Abdullah II of Jordan and with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. We share the same conviction, namely:
The military offensive Israel is preparing in the Gaza Strip will lead only to a real disaster for both peoples and will drag the region into permanent war.
We believe the only way to end this war is through:
•Achieving a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
•The release of all hostages.
•Large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
•The disarmament of Hamas and the strengthening of the Palestinian Authority’s role in Gaza.
To achieve this, together with Egypt, Jordan, and all our regional and international partners, we must:
•Deploy an international mission to stabilize the Gaza Strip.
•Work on shaping a political solution that meets the aspirations of both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples.
France will co-chair with Saudi Arabia the international conference on the implementation of the two-state solution, to be held in September in New York, in an effort to make progress on this issue.
The two-state solution is the only reliable path for the families of the hostages, and for both Israelis and Palestinians.
No to war. Yes to peace and security for all.”
