The European Union has failed to reach consensus on a full ban of Russian oil and gas imports, but say that an agreement will be reached in the coming weeks.
Member states are discussing several options for sanctions on Russian oil and gas supplies, but there is no unanimity on any of them, according to High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, as quoted by Le Figaro.
“As far as I know, at this time there is no proposal on the table regarding oil and gas. There are many considerations, many proposals that are studied,” Borrell said on Thursday.
According to French President Emmanuel Macron, the ban on imports of Russian oil and gas is not being considered at the moment.

“This issue (of embargo on Russian gas and oil) may appear on a negotiating table, but not today. Negotiations on coal and oil are already underway, but not yet on gas,” Macron told the Italian Corriere della Sera newspaper on Friday.
Earlier in the day, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said that an embargo on oil imports from Russia may be imposed in the upcoming weeks, adding that there’s “resistance and concern” among EU members over the very idea of the ban.
“A ban on supply of oil from Russia is on the table … this issue may be resolved within weeks, but there is no exact date yet,” Le Maire said on Friday as quoted by the BFMTV broadcaster.

The Ukraine conflict will collapse the eurozone (opinion piece)

Once the operation in Ukraine is finished and depending on how Ukraine is Divided, the EU will have to claim whatever is left of Ukraine. This poses a major economic issue to the organization. On top of massive inflation and supply shortages, the eurozone is poised for a massive recession if not a full collapse. In what I presume to be the most likely scenario, the land bridge will be completed from Russia proper to the Moldovan border. The vassal state that remains will be landlocked and lost any economic potential it once had. ports, factories, ect. Will either have been destroyed or be in the hands of the Russian federation. Think Greece bailout multiplied by five every year for the next twenty years. The potential realistic expense of this nation rebuilding should be projected around 100 billion USD a year (already being shown in the Ukrainian government’s ask of 7 billion a month to keep its economy afloat). This is the strategy I believe Russia is moving ahead with. While controlling the whole of Ukraine may seem like the big win, the real victory will be an economically destroyed Western Europe. limiting their negotiating abilities while also widening Moscows sphere of influence throughout Eastern Europe, Mediterranean, Central Asia, Latin America, and the caucuses.

So Russia asking to get paid for its own gas in its own currency is "blackmail", but imposing sanctions on Russia, freeze Russian foreign assets, seize Russian private property and ban Russian athletes from playing sports, are what diplomatic efforts?

Give me a break!
