JUST IN: Federal agents have just uncovered "over a MILLION" more Epstein Files in the Southern District New York.

The DOJ says they are being reviewed for release under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

"Due to the mass volume of material, this process may take a few more weeks. The Department will continue to fully comply with federal law and President Trump’s direction to release the files."

The documents include Epstein's fake Austrian passport from the 1980s.

Name: "Marius Robert Fortelni." Listed residence: Saudi Arabia.

His lawyers' explanation in 2019? Absolutely priceless.

"Epstein-an affluent member of the Jewish faith-acquired the passport in the 1980s, when hijackings were prevalent, in connection to Middle East travel. The passport was for personal protection in the event of travel to dangerous areas, only to be presented to potential kidnappers, hijackers or terrorists should violent episodes occur."

Read that again slowly.

A wealthy Jewish financier obtained a fake passport listing him as a Saudi Arabian citizen... to make him safer from terrorists and hijackers in the Middle East.

The logic: if hijackers found out he was American and Jewish, bad.

But if they found out he was traveling on forged documents with a fake Saudi identity? Totally fine.

No follow-up questions from the guys with AK-47s about fraudulent passports.

Also: the passport expired 32 years ago, so why does it matter? (Because it proves pattern of behavior, but sure.)

Here's what fake passports are actually for: moving through countries without creating records.

Border stamps that can't be traced back to your real identity. Meetings that don't exist in any database.

Epstein didn't need protection from hijackers. He needed protection from investigators asking why he was in certain countries meeting certain people.

The Saudi angle's the chef's kiss. Because Saudi Arabia's where intelligence agencies, arms dealers, and people with extremely sensitive business meet off the books.

But sure. It was for hijackers.

Het Amerikaanse ministerie van Justitie moet nog meer dan vijf miljoen pagina's uit het Epstein-dossier beoordelen voordat het die kan vrijgeven. Het ministerie schakelt vierhonderd advocaten in om die klus voor eind januari te klaren.
Dat aantal is veel groter dan wat het ministerie eerder communiceerde, schrijven onder meer persbureau Reuters en The New York Times. Om al die pagina's te verwerken, heeft het ministerie van Justitie nog eens vierhonderd advocaten nodig. Die wil het ook bij andere ministeries halen.
Eigenlijk moest de Amerikaanse justitie alle documenten tegen 19 december openbaar hebben gemaakt. Maar die deadline haalde het maar voor ongeveer 300.000 pagina's.
Sinds eind november zijn al tweehonderd advocaten aan de slag om de documenten rond de overleden zedendelinquent Jeffrey Epstein te beoordelen. Op 24 december werd bekend dat de Amerikaanse autoriteiten ruim een miljoen documenten hebben ontdekt die mogelijk te maken hebben met Epstein.
"Advocaten werken dag en nacht om de wettelijk vereiste bewerkingen uit te voeren ter bescherming van de slachtoffers", schreef justitie toen op X. Het onleesbaar maken van bijvoorbeeld namen zou veel tijd kosten.

Frustratie over trage vrijgave documenten​

Bij Democraten, maar ook bij een aantal Republikeinen leeft onvrede over de trage vrijgave van de documenten. De Democratische fractievoorzitter Chuck Schumer noemde de weigering om het volledige dossier meteen openbaar te maken "een flagrante minachting voor de wet".
De Amerikaanse president Donald Trump, die jarenlang een vriendschappelijke relatie had met Epstein, probeerde lang de vrijgave van de documenten tegen te houden. In november maakte hij een draai toen duidelijk werd dat zowel in de Senaat als in het Huis van Afgevaardigden een grote meerderheid zou stemmen voor de vrijgave.
Epstein beroofde zich in augustus 2019 in zijn cel van het leven terwijl hij in afwachting was van zijn proces.
