Dat bekent niet dat over 41 dagen de olie in Amerika op is. Alleen als er niks meer wordt geproduceerd is het over 41 dagen op, maar er wordt wel geproduceerd. Dit wordt ook wel een strategisch voorraad genoemd voor noodsituaties, een buffer. Het is inderdaad wel een kleinere voorraad dan wat het ooit was.
