If Trump sends U.S. naval vessels to escort all the ships sailing through the Straight of Hormuz, he's putting potentially thousands of U.S. sailors in the DIRECT path of Iran's shore-to-ship missile batteries. And given that the straight is only something like 35km wide at its most narrow point, this is ridiculously close-range for both drones and missiles that Iran can launch from inland.
It almost seems like Trump is TRYING to get a U.S. ship sunk and hundreds (or thousands) of U.S. sailors killed so that there's outrage in America to support a ground invasion. Otherwise, what could possibly be the justification for an announcement like this? It makes ZERO strategic sense from a military point of view.
I imagine people in the Pentagon are losing their minds right now, and trying to figure out a way to push Trump to walk this back, because sailing U.S. naval vessels right through Hormuz is a suicide mission.
