BREAKING: Saudi Arabia expelled Iran’s military attaché, his deputy, and three embassy staff, declaring them persona non grata and ordering them to leave within 24 hours.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs renews the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s firm condemnation of the blatant Iranian attacks against the Kingdom, the Gulf Cooperation Council states, and a number of Arab and Islamic countries.
As the Islamic Republic of Iran continues to target the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its sovereignty, civilian objects and civilians, economic interests, and diplomatic missions in the Kingdom, this constitutes a clear violation of all relevant international conventions, the principles of good neighborliness and respect for the sovereignty of states, the Beijing Agreement, and Security Council Resolution No. 2817 (2026). It also contradicts Islamic brotherhood and the values and principles of Islam that the Iranian side consistently speaks of, confirming that these are statements not reflected in actions.
Further affirming what was included in the statement issued by the Ministry on March 9, 2026, that the continued Iranian attacks mean further escalation, which will have a significant impact on relations now and in the future.
Accordingly, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has notified the military attaché at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Kingdom, the assistant military attaché at the embassy, and three members of the mission staff to leave the Kingdom, considering them persona non grata, and that they must depart the Kingdom within (24) hours.
The Kingdom affirms that it will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to preserve its sovereignty, safeguard its security, and protect its territory, airspace, citizens, residents, capabilities, and interests, based on Article (51) of the Charter of the United Nations.”
