It is practically impossible to understand what this scene is like, or what it means, unless you're here. I've met people from around the world who've come to pay respects, including many from across the West. The crowds pouring in are endless, and grow larger and more intense into the night.
From Tehran's Mosala, there are indignant calls for vengeance, displays of sorrow and defiance, protest, songs and marathons of poetry. These days of mourning will amount to one of the most resonant moments in the history of anti-imperialist movements.
Everyone I've spoken to believes war will return to Iran before long, and none trust the MOU with the US. But they are confident their country can deter another assault. They see their own citizens' mobilization as an integral component of Iran's survival.
If the assassination of Khamenei was designed to spur regime change, his funeral demonstrates how badly it has backfired. And the crime may blow back in ways its historically illiterate authors could have never imagined.
What we're witnessing in the Mosala consolidates the Islamic Republic and its revolutionary society as a political reality that can not be erased through regime change war or sanctions. This is a turning point in the region that will echo for a generation.

Upon reentering the USA at Dulles International Airport, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) interrogated @MaxBlumenthal about his trip (to Iran), searched his belongings, and demanded that he provide access to his smart phones. When he refused to open his phones, CBP officers forced him to turn them over for detention. Other journalists and travelers have been threatened with the loss of their passports for a month for failing to hand over their devices.

Many are painting Laura Loomer as a fraud and unregistered foreign agent now that she's reversed every previous position she took on Russia to go on a Ukraine govt junket to Kiev, where she's been personally welcomed by Zelensky.
But Loomer's amorality and fraudulence go much deeper.
In January 2025, hours after I was removed from then-Secretary of State Tony Blinken's final press conference for interrupting and confronting him over his support for the Gaza genocide, I received a direct message from Loomer expressing her support for my freedom of speech.
"I am deeply concerned about the attacks on free speech and freedom of the press in our country. The United States must do better," Loomer declared in the post she messaged to me.
Loomer is, of course, the same figure who recently called for me to be arrested, investigated, subjected to a heavily armed FBI raid, and to even have my citizenship revoked, for traveling to Tehran on my own dime to report on the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the US war on Iran.
This Ku Klux Karen practically took credit for Customs and Border Patrol seizing my devices on my return when they boasted that they'd reported me to the State Department and FBI.
So what changed for Loomer between the final days of the Biden administration, when they pronounced their support for my First Amendment rights, and the present moment, when they produced a series of breathless screeds calling for my constitutional rights to be violated for doing journalism from Iran?
I wonder if the answer lies in a lobbying contract she signed with a certain foreign apartheid state that is guiding the Trump administration's war on Iran, and which controls its policy toward the entire region. Perhaps this contract is overseen by Trump's former campaign manager, Brad Parscale, whose Clock Tower X has doled out at least $50 million from Israel's Foreign Ministry to avaricious, proudly unprincipled right-wing influencers like Loomer, often to undermine the administration's negotiations with Iran.
Whatever the case might be, Loomer's attacks on me look like an act of pure projection by a cynical political prostitute who serves clients by defaming and attempting to criminalize Americans who interfere with their malign, militaristic objectives.

These trashy monarchists posted up at the entrance of my talk to protest and harass me. They are the same freaks who celebrated and danced in the streets of Georgetown literally the day after the US murdered 168 school kids and teachers in Minab. And you can hear them justify bombing that school - the crime of the century - as a legitimate target. I might have just ignored them under normal circumstances, but I had just spent the week in the rubble of homes of ordinary Iranians who they lobbied my government to bomb. In the ruins of one destroyed Tehran apartment where an entire family of 12 was slaughtered in a US strike, I found clothes belonging to young children about the same age as mine. So it was impossible to pass by these accessories to murder without venting my disgust at them. Actually, the whole experience was cathartic. God damn these deranged Persian gusanos and their Clown Prince too.
