Israeli forces have mostly leveled 48 of the roughly 60 villages and towns in occupied southern Lebanon, according to a New York Times analysis. Most of the destruction came after the April ceasefire.The Times found the razing was largely carried out through controlled demolitions. Nearly all the destroyed villages were majority Shia, while Christian, Druze and Sunni villages were largely spared. About 270,000 people remain barred from returning home.
