Denemarken heeft als eerste land het coronavaccinatieprogramma opgeschort. De gezondheidsautoriteit van het land zegt dat ‘het virus onder controle is’.

Op 1 februari hief Denemarken als eerste EU-land alle coronamaatregelen op. Het land kondigde aan corona niet langer als bedreiging te zien. “We nemen afscheid van beperkingen en verwelkomen het leven zoals we dat vóór corona kenden,” zei premier Mette Frederiksen.

Geen uitnodigingen meer​

Medische topadviseurs hadden daarvoor gezegd dat Covid-19 niet meer aangeduid hoeft te worden als een aandoening die de samenleving bedreigt.

Ongeveer 81 procent van de 5,8 miljoen Denen is volledig gevaccineerd, 62 procent is geboosterd. Vanaf 15 mei gaat de overheid geen uitnodigingen meer versturen. De Deense hoofdarts Bolette Soborg zei echter van plan te zijn om het vaccinatieprogramma in de herfst weer te hervatten.

Geen effect​

Directeur infectieziektebestrijding Tyra Grove Krause van het SSI, het Deense RIVM, zei eerder dat strenge maatregelen geen effect hebben.

Het land versoepelde in september, ging tijdens de omikrongolf weer deels op slot en liet in februari de teugels weer vieren. In het geval van omikron is het onmogelijk om de verspreiding van besmettingen tegen te houden, zei Grove Krause.
