Anat Schwartz and Adam Sella, the NYT’s assigned helpers for Jeffrey Gettleman’s “Hamas mass rape” hoax article, coerced a source into providing video by insisting their participation would aid Israel’s hasbara efforts

That’s according to the source in an interview with Israel’s YNet

But what did the video show? It depicted the body of Gal Abdush, the so called “girl in the black dress” who was found killed next to her destroyed car, with burns on her head, in a small dress with obvious signs of rigor mortis.

Those determined to push the Hamas rape hoax - including Gettleman, Schwartz, and Sella - willfully misinterpreted the video to claim that Abdush had been violated by Palestinian militants

Abdush’s sister and brother in law both publicly stated that she was not raped, that such an act would have been impossible under the circumstances, and that the NYT manipulated her family into participating in the article without even knowing of its incendiary angle

In a follow up article apparently prompted by an internal staff uproar at the NYT, Gettleman phoned Abdush’s sister, Miral Alter, and seemingly attempted to pressure her into withdrawing her complaint https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/29/world/middleeast/israel-hamas-sexual-violence-un.html

Gettleman and his team also returned to other sources who had been exposed for inconsistent or demonstrably bogus testimony to solicit more information. He turned up nothing new. In fact, one source who changed his story multiple times, Raz Cohen, refused to speak to Gettleman on the grounds that he was too traumatized.

Besides gathering a collection of bogus testimonies from dubious supposed witnesses who were never vetted for credibility, Gettleman, Schwartz and Sella have demonstrated shocking levels of journalistic malpractice during and since their investigation which should result in the retraction of their comprehensively debunked article and serious professional consequences.

Another interesting aspect of the “Hamas sexual violence” story and other Oct. 7th atrocity propaganda is the refusal to credit the independent journalists who debunked it first, while others stayed on the fence or even parroted it (as is the case with The Intercept — x.com/aaronjmate/sta…).

.@jeremyscahill exemplifies that here, omitting @TheGrayzoneNews and @intifada. Better late than never doesn’t excuse erasing those who actually did the work.

If the US media decided to show gut-wrenching images like this on its front pages, the Biden administration would quickly be pressured to withdraw its support for the Gaza genocide. But the government and media are both controlled by the same oligarchy, so the mass-murder goes on.

The New York Times is walking back @gettleman's scam "Hamas sexual violence" story without acknowledging it.

A Times spokesperson now says that the story showed "that there may have been systematic use of sexual assault" on Oct. 7th. But @gettleman's story asserted that there was "a pattern of rape, mutilation and extreme brutality against women in the attacks on Israel." (theintercept.com/2024/02/28/new…)

What's happening is obvious: @TheGrayzoneNews @intifada @Mondoweiss and others exposed the glaring inconsistencies in Gettleman's story. Rather than retract, the Times is adding qualified language to cover up for its fraudulent "reporting."
