The more Ed Sheeran explains, the worse it gets.
He says his concerts should remain free from politics. Yet he performed at Concert for Ukraine, publicly declared “I stand with Ukraine” and donated music proceeds to the Ukrainian appeal.
In 2024, he met former Israeli hostage Noa Argamani at New York’s Global Citizen Festival. The official State of Israel account proudly amplified the encounter. There is nothing wrong with meeting a former hostage. Compassion should never be selective.
But when Macklemore said “Free Palestine,” venues applied pressure, the promoter removed him and Sheeran continued the tour without him.
Sheeran says the decision was not his. But accepting the silencing while hiding behind “apolitical concerts” is itself a political choice.
This is not neutrality. It is selective silence.
