Israeli forces opened fire on a UN patrol inside southern Lebanon, despite having been informed in advance of the peacekeepers’ location and schedule. The incident occurred near the town of Sarda.
Israel is considering an operation in Lebanon to ‘neutralize the threat’ posed by Hezbollah, after Israeli military actions have been limited to airstrikes, according to Israel’s public broadcaster KAN.
Israeli assessments cited by KAN say Hezbollah has managed to recover some of its capabilities and that the Lebanese government is unable to confront the group.
Separately, U.S. and international reporting says Netanyahu discussed expanding operations in Lebanon with President Donald Trump in Florida, and that the Trump administration does not rule out a potential ground operation but has asked Israel to wait before making a decision to allow for further dialogue with the Lebanese government.
